Ultimatly, the right timber comes down to the look you want, how much maintenance you’re prepared to do, and how the deck ties in with the rest of the home. Hardwoods give you a denser board with a more natural grain, while treated pine offers a cleaner, lighter finish that suits painted or enclosed areas. Each species has its own colour, texture and way of ageing, so the choice is mostly about the style you prefer and how you want the deck to sit within the space.
